A DIS 2026 Workshop

What if food is not only something we eat, but a medium through which we interact with the intertwined digital and material world? Join our DIS2026 workshop, Beyond Interfaces: The Future of Edible Interactions. Expect a mix of making, playing, thinking, tasting, and imagining together.
Edible interactions are emerging as an exciting direction in HCI, grounded within Human-Food Interaction (HFI), where food is no longer just a source of sustenance. Instead, it becomes an interactive interface with computing technologies, a testbed of research, and a material of design.
In this workshop, we will dive into this evolving space together, exploring how edible interactions can be sensed, transformed, and experienced across multiple modalities – touch, taste, sound, and beyond.
✨ About the Workshop
This hands-on workshop brings together people working across HCI, design, engineering, perception science, and more. We will:
• Experience live demos & prototypes
• Engage in interactive group discussions
• Share early ideas, concepts, and artifacts
• Co-create future directions for edible interactions
👥 Who we’re looking for
We welcome:
• Researchers & students in HCI, design, fabrication, or engineering
• People working on multisensory, crossmodal, or material-based experiences
• Anyone exploring food, perception, or interactive systems
🚀What we aim to achieve
Together, we want to:
• Build a connected community around edible interactions
• Develop a shared language and framework across disciplines
• Explore future applications and research directions
• Spark new collaborations and projects
💡 Bring your prototype, concept, or just your curiosity.
• Deadline: May 30
• Send your submission to: hongyue@exertiongameslab.org
